Dothan, Alabama – Dwight Mills, a 69-year-old man, has been arrested by the Dothan Police Department in connection with the death of his wife nearly 22 years ago. Sharon Mills, aged 49 at the time, was reported missing by her husband on December 30, 2001. Her body was discovered approximately a month later in a drainage ditch in Holmes County near Bonifay, Florida.
Despite exhaustive efforts by Dothan police investigators at the time, the case went cold due to a lack of leads. However, recent advancements in forensic technology led to the reopening of the case. Upon reexamination of evidence, officials obtained an arrest warrant for Dwight Mills on suspicion of his wife’s murder.
Dwight Mills was apprehended on Monday, February 26, by members of the United States Marshal Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, with the assistance of Dothan Police investigators. He faces charges of murder and abuse of a corpse.
Mills is currently held on a $1.5 million bond, as reported by WTVY. The arrest brings a renewed sense of closure to a case that had remained unsolved for over two decades.
