MIAMI, Florida – In a shocking and tragic incident, a Missouri woman, Shaneka McKinzie, was arrested in south Florida on Thursday, November 16, on charges of first-degree murder after allegedly strangling her 8-year-old son, Jaisyn Burgos, to death and then proceeding to run errands with his lifeless body in the car.
According to records from the Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation, McKinzie brought her unconscious son to Hialeah Hospital on Tuesday, November 14, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy revealed that the cause of the boy’s death was strangulation, reportedly carried out with a tablecloth.
NBC Miami reports that McKinzie confessed to police, stating that she had been planning her son’s death for several days. The tragic act occurred while Jaisyn was asleep in the backseat of the car. Disturbingly, after the alleged murder, McKinzie continued with her routine, running errands around Miami-Dade County with her son’s lifeless body still in the vehicle.
Currently held without bond, McKinzie faces charges of first-degree murder. The incident has left the community and authorities in shock, grappling with the unthinkable nature of the crime.
